The world is our treasure

December 31, 2022Creating custom artwork, framing and graphic design projects constitute the majority of Art in the Fast Lane’s business, however on occasion we have the privilege of participating in a venture which is a divergence for our team and a really fun undertaking.
Recently we had the pleasure of working with Margaret Smith Design Studios on a custom tile and framing project for her client. Prior to moving forward with our collaboration, Margaret provided us with a much appreciated and very detailed visual concept including all specifics, so we knew what needed to be accomplished in order to complete her client’s vision. The tiles were beautifully and artfully painted by Margaret’s client, and as always we took the utmost of care with this precious, very fragile and unique piece of artwork.
The center tile portion had previously been assembled, backed and secured on plexi-glass and all parties involved were in agreement that removal of the tiles from the existing backing would not be an option. The substantial weight of the overall piece was always a consideration, therefore our team decided everything would be arranged, assembled and installed on site.
Margaret’s original design specified that this would be a double framing project. We carefully removed the existing frame from the already mounted and arranged hand painted tiles, approximately 8” x 10”, and reframed the piece with the metal graphite frame as selected by Margaret and her client. The larger board, approximately 3’ x 5’ was custom tiled on site and retro fitted in the same metal graphite frame. The center piece was mounted and floated in the center of the larger piece and ultimately hung on the stone wall under the covered area adjacent to the client’s pool. From start to finish we consulted with our fabricators and installer regarding the waterproofing, tiling, grouting, mounting and finally installing the massive and carefully crafted piece of tiled art.
Full coordination with everyone involved was paramount in executing the completion of this project. We are proud to have exceeded the client’s expectations by being able to construct the customized art piece which enhances their outdoor space so beautifully.
